Sammilana is a celebration where our old students come back to school to open the pages of past experience that they had in our institution. We organize ‘Sammilana’ on 2nd Saturday in the month of July every year. This year we celebrated it on 9th of this July.
The programme began with a melodious prayer by Mrs. Deepanjali followed by a foreword and welcome by Mr. Aravind Gurjer. The chief guest Mrs. Malathi, an educationist from Bengaluru, told in her speech that school is a bridge between the old students and the present students. According to her, school is a gift of the society through which we get many things. She also reminded everyone telling that it is one’s duty to think what one can give back to one’s school and also to the society.
Mr. Balachandra Hegde, an alumnus has been felicitated for his excellent work on the ‘Project Belaku’. Through this project, he set up solar lighting systems in some remote areas of Uttara Kannada. Mr. Ganesh Kelamane has also been felicitated for his exemplary work in the field of theatre.
After the felicitation, many students ruminated their experience they had in this institution and guided their juniors how to build their career. Mr. Kalyanasundaram, the SMC Chairman suggested the students to select their area of interest for higher studies. In his presidential remarks, Mr. K.G. Krishanamurthy, a well known theatre person, gave a call to the alumni not to forget the school as it had given them knowledge, memories, skills and values.

There was a feast in the afternoon for all. It was followed by a one to one interaction on how the alumni could get involved in the ongoings of the institution and also to contribute concretely for the benefit of the students. On the whole, it was a touchy and affective programme where the staff and the alumni reminisced a lot.
