“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks”
– John Muir
Agriculture has a significant role in the socio-economic fabric of India. To convey this concept, our institution had arranged a field trip for students of Class VIII to an agriculture field in Bilgodi near Purappemane.
Accompanying with 5 teachers, the students left the campus at 10 am in the morning. They reached the field of Mr. Umesh at 10.30 am. They were literally shown how the fields are ploughed and got ready for planting. The students also planted a few saplings in the field to get the practical experience. The interaction with the farmers and the personal experience of observing the on going work, helped the students to get first hand knowledge about farming fields and even the use of modern technology.
It was an integrated educational field trip of Science, Maths, English and Social Science. The students got an insight into the difficulties faced by the farmers like scarcity of rain, labourers, storage of the ripened crops, government subsidies etc. during their interaction. Thus, this field trip sensitized them about the difficulties that the farmers face and made them understand the value of food.
